I am the kind of girl who prefers a paper book to a kindle, a hand written letter to an email, a grand piano to a synthesizer. Before a few days ago, I didn't know what a sequencer was, or a driver, or a web browser, really, to be honest. I kind of still don't really know what they are, but I am learning. The impetus--my musical, creative life is now somehow very tied to my computer and a MIDI controller.
This blog is intended to motivate me to stick with my plan of learning how to use two complicated (at least for me) software programs for musical creation called "Reason/Record". I not only plan to learn how to use them, I plan to use them to create/record an album.
An ambitious goal for someone like me, whose musical training was for the opera stage. The classical world has given me a strong foundation, and I am grateful for that, eternally. It also gave me larger than life musical ideas, stretched me and forced me to be vulnerable in front of an audience.
My hope is that I can harness those patterns in a new way. Working in all of the discipline and tradition of that world has allowed me to realize that my values lie in artistic and musical freedom. It's my hope that mastering this technology can be a key to my own creative license.
Let's see where this goes.....
